Essay Requirements
Submit one original essay (1000-1500 words) responding to ONE prompt below:
- Best Interests of the Child: In parenting time/parental responsibilities cases, courts focus on a child’s best interests. What does that mean in real life? Choose one factor you believe matters most and explain why, using examples from your learning, service, work, or lived experience.
- Building a Workable Parenting Plan: Describe a realistic co-parenting challenge (communication, schedules, school decisions, relocation, new partners, etc.). Propose two practical solutions that could reduce conflict and improve stability for a child, and explain how your education supports your approach.
- Access to Help in Family Law: Families can struggle to get timely, fair help during divorce, custody, support, or protection-order situations. Identify one barrier (cost, information gaps, safety concerns, language access, etc.) and propose one improvement that would make support more accessible.
- Safety and Stability: When safety is a concern in a family, how should the legal system balance protection, due process, and long-term stability – especially when children are involved? Explain your perspective and how you plan to serve families through your future career.
Important Essay Guidelines
- Original work: Your essay must be your own original writing and ideas.
- No plagiarism: Do not copy from websites, articles, or other applicants. Properly credit any sources you reference.
